Isaiah 17: 1: The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
Damascus (the capital of Syria) is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, but the civil war in Syria which began in 2011 is likely to result in the complete destruction and annihilation of the city.
On April 7, 2017, the United States launched Tomahawk cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea into Syria, aimed at the Shayrat Airbase controlled by the Syrian government. The strike was ordered by President Donald Trump as a response to the Khan Shaykhun chemical attack on April 4. Syria’s allies issued a joint statement following the missile strike, saying that what America had done was a crossing of red lines and that there will be a response of force against such aggressors regardless of who they are.
Such aggressors would include Israel since it has also been bombing Syria by hitting Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists operating on the northern border of Israel; and if Syria and its allies view their situation as desperate, they may then decide to use these bombing raids as an excuse to launch an attack on Israel, thus drawing Israel into a war that could rally the Muslim world to Syria’s side and conclude with the nuclear annihilation of Damascus by Israel.
Ezekiel 38: 1 - 6: And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.
The events in Syria are setting the stage for the coalition of nations described in Ezekiel 38; collectively, these nations have never attacked Israel and such an alliance of nations has never existed before. But today such a coalition is coming together; diplomatic, economic and military ties especially between Russia (Magog) and Iran (Persia) have been strengthened of late.
Turkey (Togarmah) is a member of NATO (as of April 2017) who (in 2015) shot down a Russian jet which strayed into Turkish airspace; such an event set Russia and Turkey at odds. However, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has jailed many political opponents, and Turkey voted to eliminate its parliamentary form of government and give expanded powers to Erdogan who is an anti-Western, pro-Islamist leader working hard to strengthen Turkey’s ties with Russia.
Revelation 16: 12: And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
Prophesied end-time alliances are coming together for the first time in history to fulfil God’s Word. The Syrian civil war has been a catalyst to bring the kings of the East together for the great showdown that is soon to happen.
